How to Play the Mono-Green Instant-Speed Creature Ramp Deck in Commander

Bracket 3 · Our Radagast of Rhosgobel decklist · Green Ramp

Our Radagast list is mono-green creature ramp. Radagast makes the first creature spell you cast each turn cost {2} less and lets you cast it at instant speed.

The deck ramps with mana Elves, Selvala and Karametra's Acolyte, draws off every creature with Beast Whisperer and The Great Henge, and wins with Craterhoof Behemoth, two Ghaltas and a wall of 6/6 tramplers.

01The Commander

Radagast of Rhosgobel is a four-mana 2/5. The first creature spell you cast each turn costs {2} less and can be cast as though it had flash.

That works on every turn, not just yours. You can hold mana up, then flash in a creature at the end of an opponent's turn or as a surprise blocker.

With Seedborn Muse your permanents untap on each other player's untap step, so you get a full mana pool and a cheaper flash creature on every turn around the table.

02How This Deck Wins

  1. 1

    Ramp early

Llanowar Elves, Birds of Paradise, Sakura-Tribe Elder and Nature's Lore get you to Radagast on turn three.

  2. 2

    Cast a creature every turn

Radagast discounts one creature a turn and lets you cast it at instant speed, while Beast Whisperer, Garruk's Uprising and The Great Henge draw you more.

  3. 3

    Trample over the table

Craterhoof Behemoth, Ghalta, Primal Hunger and Surrak and Goreclaw turn a wide green board into lethal damage.

09Combos and Key Interactions

+

You untap on every opponent's untap step, so each turn you have full mana and a creature that costs {2} less with flash.

+

Radagast of Rhosgobel + Glademuse

Flash a creature in on an opponent's turn and draw a card, once each turn around the table. Opponents also draw when they cast spells on other players' turns.

+

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds + Ghalta, Primal Hunger

With a 12/12 Ghalta out, Selvala makes twelve mana for {G}.

10How to Play

Opening hand

Keep hands with three lands and a one-mana Elf or a ramp spell. Radagast on turn three is ideal.

1

Early gameturns 1-3

Play Llanowar Elves, Elvish Mystic or Birds of Paradise, then Sakura-Tribe Elder or Nature's Lore into Radagast.

2

Mid gameturns 4-7

Hold mana and flash in one discounted creature on each opponent's turn. Get draw engines like Beast Whisperer and The Great Henge first.

3

Late gameturn 8+

Untap with a wide board, then cast Craterhoof Behemoth or attack with Surrak and Goreclaw for trample damage.

Tips

  • Radagast's discount and flash work on the first creature spell each turn, including on opponents' turns.
  • The discount only reduces generic mana, so it can't cut green pips.
  • Nylea isn't a creature until your devotion to green is five, but it discounts creature spells right away.
  • Gwenna's mana and Castle Garenbrig's six mana only pay for creatures and creature abilities.

Common mistakes

  • Casting a cheap creature on your own turn and losing the discount for a bigger one.
  • Tapping out on your turn when you could flash a creature in at end of turn.
  • Casting Bane of Progress while you rely on The Great Henge or your enchantments.
  • Overextending into a wipe without Heroic Intervention ready.

Watch out for

  • Board wipes.
  • Removal on Radagast and Seedborn Muse.
  • Fliers, since the deck has few answers beyond reach.
  • Counterspells on your big threats.

Our list runs 1 Game Changer (Seedborn Muse), within the Bracket 3 limit of three.

This is a Bracket 3 (Upgraded) style deck with one Game Changer, Seedborn Muse.

It has no two-card infinite combos, but Craterhoof Behemoth can end the game out of nowhere with a wide board, so mention it at Rule 0.
