How to Play the Sultai Crab Landfall Mill Deck in Commander

Bracket 3 · Our Homer, the Hermit decklist · Crab Landfall

Our Homer list is Sultai landfall mill. Every land you play makes the targeted players mill two cards for each Crab, Lobster, Nautilus, Starfish or Trilobite you control.

The deck builds a shell of Crabs and Starfish, plays extra lands with Azusa and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove, doubles landfall with Ancient Greenwarden and Yarok, and multiplies the mill with Bruvac the Grandiloquent and The Water Crystal.

01The Commander

Homer, the Hermit is a three-mana 0/9 Crab Druid. Landfall: whenever a land you control enters, any number of target players each mill X cards, where X is twice the number of Crabs, Lobsters, Nautiluses, Starfish and Trilobites you control.

Homer is a Crab himself, so every land mills at least two. Each extra Crab or Starfish adds two more per land.

You pick the targets each time. Hit every opponent, or add yourself when you want lands in your graveyard for Hedge Shredder, Life from the Loam or Splendid Reclamation.

02How This Deck Wins

  1. 1

    Build the Crab count

Cheap Crabs and Starfish like Hedron Crab, Ruin Crab and Sigiled Starfish each add two cards to every Homer trigger.

  2. 2

    Play lots of lands

Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Exploration, fetch lands and Scapeshift give you several landfall triggers a turn.

  3. 3

    Mill the table out

Bruvac the Grandiloquent, The Water Crystal and Ancient Greenwarden turn each land into a huge mill until opponents have nothing left to draw.

09Combos and Key Interactions

+

Homer, the Hermit + Bruvac the Grandiloquent

Opponents mill twice as many cards from every Homer trigger.

+

Homer, the Hermit + Ancient Greenwarden

Each land makes Homer trigger twice, and you can replay lands from your graveyard for more triggers.

+

Homer, the Hermit + Scapeshift

Sacrifice your lands and fetch the same number. Each land that enters is a separate Homer trigger.

10How to Play

Opening hand

Keep hands with three or four lands and a cheap Crab or ramp spell. Homer on turn three is ideal.

1

Early gameturns 1-3

Play Homer, cheap Crabs like Hedron Crab and Ruin Crab, and ramp like Farseek or Nature's Lore.

2

Mid gameturns 4-7

Add extra land drops with Azusa, Lost but Seeking or Dryad of the Ilysian Grove, and multipliers like Bruvac the Grandiloquent.

3

Late gameturn 8+

Cast Scapeshift or Splendid Reclamation for a big landfall turn, or wipe and mill with Singularity Rupture.

Tips

  • Fetch lands give two landfall triggers, one for the fetch and one for the land it finds. Bounce lands return a land you can replay for another trigger.
  • Homer counts himself, so he always mills at least two cards per target.
  • Spark Double can copy Homer without the legend rule, and both trigger on every land.
  • Milling doesn't win on its own. Opponents lose when they need to draw from an empty library.

Common mistakes

  • Targeting yourself with Homer when you don't have a use for the cards.
  • Playing your land before Crabs or multipliers are on the battlefield.
  • Filling opponents' graveyards against reanimator decks without Bojuka Bog ready.
  • Overextending Crabs into a board wipe.

Watch out for

  • Graveyard decks that benefit from your mill.
  • Effects that shuffle graveyards back into libraries.
  • Board wipes.
  • Removal on Homer and Bruvac.

Bracket3

Our list runs 1 Game Changer (Crop Rotation), within the Bracket 3 limit of three.

This is a Bracket 3 (Upgraded) style deck with one Game Changer, Crop Rotation.

It has no infinite combos, but Scapeshift with Homer and a multiplier like Bruvac or Ancient Greenwarden can mill a table in one turn, so mention it at Rule 0.
