Our Chatterfang list is Golgari Squirrels and tokens. Chatterfang adds a Squirrel to every token you make, so Treasures, Food, Clues and even Squirrels come with extra Squirrels.

The deck makes tokens with Peregrin Took, Academy Manufactor and Chatterstorm, doubles them with Doubling Season and Parallel Lives, and drains the table with Mirkwood Bats, Zulaport Cutthroat and Valley Rotcaller.

01The Commander

Chatterfang, Squirrel General is a three-mana 3/3 with forestwalk. If one or more tokens would be created under your control, that many 1/1 green Squirrels are created too.

For {B} and X Squirrels, a target creature gets +X/-X. Sacrifice enough Squirrels to kill almost any creature.

Every token you make doubles into a Squirrel, so token makers become armies and every sacrifice payoff fires twice.

Opening hand

Keep hands with three lands, ramp, and an early token maker. Chatterfang on turn three starts the engine.

Early gameturns 1-3

Cast Chatterfang on turn three, with Gilded Goose or Prosperous Innkeeper before it.

Mid gameturns 4-7

Add token makers like Peregrin Took and Tireless Provisioner, and a payoff like Mirkwood Bats.

Late gameturn 8+

Double the board with Doubling Season or Second Harvest, then drain with sacrifice or swing with Craterhoof Behemoth.

Tips

  • Chatterfang adds Squirrels for any token, including Treasure, Food and Clues.
  • Chatterfang's Squirrels are tokens too, but they don't trigger Chatterfang again.
  • Chatterfang's +X/-X ability works as removal on any creature.
  • Peregrin Took plus Chatterfang turns one token into three.

Common mistakes

  • Overextending tokens into a wipe.
  • Sacrificing every Squirrel to Chatterfang's ability and leaving nothing for Craterhoof.
  • Forgetting Doubling Season also doubles Chatterfang's Squirrels.
  • Casting Chatterstorm with a low storm count.

Watch out for

  • Board wipes.
  • Effects that stop tokens.
  • Removal on Chatterfang.
  • Fliers your Squirrels can't block.
